In-Person
In-person notarization is a standard process that involves a notary public in person. The signer must appear in front of the notary, identify themselves, sign the document, and may need to acknowledge their signature. If the document requires a sworn statement, it may need to be placed under oath.
IPEN
IPEN is similar to a traditional paper-based notarization, but the documents being notarized are electronic. In-person electronic notarization (IPEN) is a type of in-person notarial act. During an IPEN, the notary and signer meet in person, review documents on a computer or mobile device, and use electronic signatures instead of ink signatures
RON or RIN
Remote online notarization (RON) is a process that uses electronic signature, identity verification, and audio-visual communication to notarize documents remotely. RON uses technologies such as electronic notarial journal and record keeping technologies
RIN stands for remote ink notarization.
Using audio-visual technology allows the parties to see documents as they are signed and fulfills the requirement that a document signer personally appears before a notary.
